The Spiritual Path. Finding the way

“There is the path of wisdom and the path of ignorance. They are far apart and lead to different ends …. Abiding in the midst of ignorance; thinking themselves wise and learned, fools go aimlessly to and fro like the blind leading the blind. What lies beyond life shines not to those who are careless or deluded by wealth” Tibetan Book of Living & Dying

At other times and other civilisations in history the path of spiritual transformation was confined to the minority. In these times, a large proportion of humanity must seek the path of wisdom if the world is to be protected from all the dangers that threaten it. In these times of violence and disintergration, spiritual transformation is essential to our survival as a species.

Our society is dedicated almost solely to the celebration of the ego and materialism, and it celebrates the very forces of greed and ignorance that are destroying Mother Earth. The society in which we live seems to negate any idea of sacredness and at the time that our planet is in it’s most danger we as human beings find ourselves at our most confused and trapped in a nightmare of our own creation.

A source of hope is that the spiritual teachings of all the great traditions are still available today. This is the path to Wisdom. Sadly there are very few authentic teachers who embody these truths. There is almost a total lack of discrimination in those people who are searching for the Truth. Western culture has become a haven for spiritual charlatans, and without the guidelines and criteria of a fully fledged wisdom culture, the authenticity of so-called spiritual teachers is almost impossible to establish. Today it seems that anyone can portray themselves as a guru, and attract a following. No where more so than the New Age Movement which is a relatively new religion, invented in the 1980’s by governments when they saw the public drop off more conventional religions due to sheer disillusionment. The New age philosophies contain much false information and are incomplete doctrines that are based on very little truth. Many “leaders” who promote the new age doctrines not coming from a pure place in the heart; many are con men with massive egos who don’t really care about humanity, but they are very good at saying they are.

Trust your intuition; trust how you feel around people, rather than what they say. Let this be your guide to the Truth
